Mr Alexander Chan Meng Wah, was named Chairman of the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) in 2002.  He has led the implementation of ground-breaking recommendations of the Committee on Sporting Singapore in 2001, which was a blueprint that has become the bedrock for a thriving, sustainable sports system and provided the foundation for the sporting successes that Singapore has seen over the past few years.

Mr Chan has a strong commitment to growing the mind share of sports in Singapore and especially amongst youth. He also is an active supporter of fundamental skills programmes for children, believing that early exposure to movement will lead to greater physical confidence later in life. He also sits on the Executive Board of Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee.

He was a former national swimmer in the 1970s and a multiple gold medalist at the South-East Asian Peninsular Games. He also participated in the Asian Games as well as the British Commonwealth Games.
