The Commonwealth Games is universally recognised as a unique and special experience, guaranteed to provide a rich legacy of unforgettable memories to all participants and spectators. Indeed for most of us, the Commonwealth Games is the most visible expression of the Commonwealth. The Games provide an opportunity to build friendships, recognise individual achievement and celebrate unity through diversity. At their heart is the determination to use sport and culture to help build a healthier, more equal and more tolerant Commonwealth, free from prejudice and division, untarnished by discrimination and injustice.
However today’s world is constantly changing. Our society is transforming into a global network, the sporting landscape is rapidly evolving, technology and shifting economic trends provide huge new opportunities – and challenges.
This is why the CGF has commissioned pmplegacy to undertake a comprehensive and independent Strategic Review of all aspects of the Commonwealth Games. The CGF’s objective is to provide a framework for the future development of the CGF, to ensure its activities remain sustainable and that the Games stay relevant through to 2022 and beyond. The review’s findings and recommendations will be reported to all members of the CGF at the CGF’s General Assembly in Uganda in September 2012.
The Strategic Review process will look at a range of themes but in particular the following:
- The strategy and future direction of the Commonwealth Games:– including clear objectives, mission, vision and priorities, for further details see the CGF Constitution at http://www.thecgf.com/about/constitution.pdf
- A sustainable and relevant Commonwealth Games – robust and fair bidding, planning and monitoring processes, sustainable impact and legacy, appropriate scale, the right sports, and a solid strategy to maximise opportunities and mitigate threats.
- A Commonwealth Games which makes a contribution to society – a clear understanding of how the Games can help build healthy societies and develop sport throughout the Commonwealth for the benefit of all.
- A compelling Commonwealth Games brand – with unmistakable positioning within the Commonwealth, and compelling communications which engage, delight and inspire people of all ages, cultures and nations throughout the Commonwealth.
We would welcome your views on any of the above themes or indeed any other matters associated with the Commonwealth Games. Please write in the text box below and click ‘submit’ when complete. Thank you for your engagement in the Strategic Review process.
